Day 23 – Joy Is a Person  – 2023

“Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”

Luke 2:10-11

Read Luke 2:1-14

Nine pounds, two ounces, 22 inches; 10 fingers and 10 toes…After a long and hard labor our first-born finally arrived. The weariness of hours of labor immediately disappeared. Joy filled the room. In that moment joy was not a concept or a feeling but a tiny person—a baby.

As we journey through this Advent season, dear Fresno Pacific friends, we reflect on the profound joy found in the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Luke’s Gospel reminds us of the humble beginnings of our Lord, born in a stable in Bethlehem. Despite the lowly circumstances, this event marked the dawn of a new era—a time of immeasurable joy and hope for all humanity.

Do you feel the world is broken? Are you weary? Anxious? The angel’s proclamation to the shepherds that night resounds in our hearts today, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” This message transcends time and speaks directly to your heart and mine. Joy and hope entered the world that day as a person, a baby. A perfect God took on imperfect human form—born of a virgin and destined to take away the sins of the world. Hallelujah!

Heavenly Father, we join with millions of people around the globe celebrating the joyous gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you! As we celebrate his birth, may his joy shine brightly through our lives, touching the hearts of those around us. Use us as instruments of love and compassion during this season and beyond.
