Matt 1:18-25
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

The Holman Illustrated Bible rightfully coined the statement that says…The Advent, the penitential period embracing the four Sundays before Christmas, is a time of reflection on ancient promises and preparation for the continual coming of Christ’s spirit into the world.
What a statement, and what a tradition! The reflection and the remembrance of the reason for the season!
A.D Wilson reflecting on the Advent says it is the incredible privilege of the church to remember what happen when God broken in to time to save a dying world!
Two years ago in a similar sermon we argued the point that When God got ready to break into time He came in an unusual way.
God made Himself in the form of a little baby, placed himself inside a little virgin girl, who lived in a little biddy town, in a little biddy nation on a little biddy planet among a little biddy people.

When God got ready to break into time, He did it unlike any of us would have done it. He blew no whistles, rang no bells, drew no banners, and brought no escorts. He came by a divine conception. He came the way of a common man. When God came down He came like no one else. He was God and yet He was man. He was creator and yet He was Created, He was Deity and humanity; He was everywhere and yet somewhere. He was before time and then in time. He was older than His mother, but born after her as well.
When God came down he stepped out of eternity past into eternity present, to rescue man from Sin. His name is Immanuel “God with us”. Enjoy this incredible season! Enter into it with Holy-Awe, and reverence for the King who came and who is coming again.
