Current Student Spotlight: Laura Laningham

Laura has always had a passion for serving her community. She left her volunteer job serving as a buyer for a not-for-profit in the Central Valley to pursue her dream of becoming a counselor. She is currently a third-year graduate student in the MFT program at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary. She joyfully states that the seminary community is what makes going to school here so special. The professors and faculty challenge you to critically think to seek excellence in the integration of theology, theory and professional practice. Many of her fellow students come from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds which have impacted Laura towards developing her knowledge, skills and awareness of diverse worldviews.

At the seminary Laura serves as the vice president of the Student Leadership Team. SLT coordinates connecting students and faculty into authentic relationships, integrating the demands of school, work and personal life, and supporting the seminary community in ways help students feel valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Laura plans to serve her community as an MFT counselor by working with family systems and couples and individuals in relational issues. She has a heart for people that suffer from grief, loss, anxiety, depression and trauma-related attachment issues. She also has a desire to help fellow Christ followers use the healing and hope of mental health services with congregational support and education. In her free time, she enjoys road trips with her family, activities with her church life-group, yoga and having coffee with just about anyone. She’s a people person and if you are on campus she’d love to have coffee and listen to your story.
