Battle of the Books!

One hundred twenty middle school students from the Fresno area gathered today at FPU for the annual Battle of the Books competition.  Teacher Librarians Kristine Smith of Ahwanee Middle School and Doug Ward of Computech Middle School organized the event during which teams of 4-6 students competed in a Family Feud-type competition, answering questions about 30 different books that they had read.  Students had a blast, enjoying the friendly competition, a presentation about FPU, and of course, the all-you-can-eat lunch in the dining hall.  The teacher librarians greatly enjoy bringing their students to FPU each year because it provides students a chance to experience a college campus and sparks their interest in including college in their future plans.   In my opinion, the best part of the event is seeing how excited students are about reading.  They’re already planning for next year’s competition!
