Day 11 – Love
Day 11 – Love
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.
Philippians 2:8-9, NIV
“Membership has its privileges.” Those of us of a certain age may recall this 1980s slogan from a credit card company. It is the way of the world to expect—even demand—recognition and status for things we think we have achieved, both large and small. Even just having a credit card.
Jesus is the ultimate example of God’s way. He has equal status with God, but didn’t demand entitlement from that status. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and became human. Instead of claiming his rights, his due, Jesus lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death.
Because of that humble obedience, God honors him far beyond anyone or anything. Jesus Christ is the master of all creation, to the glorious honor of God the Father.
Prayer Guide:
- How do we think of ourselves? Do we see ourselves as due some recognition or measure of respect, or do we humbly see ourselves as forgiven sinners?
- Do we acknowledge Jesus’ place above all by following his example of obedience even when it is costly?
- Ask God to continually open our eyes to areas of pride and sin in our lives.
- Pray for humility to be obedient in all circumstances and every situation.
