“And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light.” -Revelation 22:5
Read Revelation 22:1-5
You don’t have to be a soccer fan to understand that for a soccer game to be played at night towering stadium lights are required. On a smaller scale, we find ourselves enjoying the evening hours under some source of light. Granted that they are not as bright as the stadium lights, nevertheless the interior lights are bright enough for us to move freely without the fear of stubbing our toe on the end table. Before you took a peak at today’s devotional, you more than likely flicked on at least half dozen light switches.
The electrical switches we use every morning derive their electricity from such resources as fossil fuels, nuclear energy, solar panels and windmills. The electricity produced is then transmitted through electrical lines that eventually bring power into our homes. When we turn on the switch, the last thing we think about is where the electricity that warmed up our coffee came from. It is there—at the flick of a switch!
The Wise Men did not question the source of the light when they decided to follow the star to encounter the baby Jesus. By faith the Wise Men went directly to the source. Revelation 22:1-5 reminds us that the throne of God and of the Lamb is the source of the life and power for God’s servants in the city of God. Producing fruit and healing, God and the Lamb provide everlasting light and life for the nations.
Jesus, we recall the day of your birth. As the Wise Men walked by faith, let us too flick on the light(s) and recall your flowing presence in every moment of our lives.
